"Freshman spend over 9 hours a day using media and technology like phones and social media."Scary to think but I probably spent equal to or more time than that 4 and a half years ago as a freshman at Slippery Rock University. Thinking about this led me to wonder, " If a freshman is spending these many hours on social media and mobile devices, what are they searching for, looking at, or talking about?" I imagine they are wondering what time the party is, where a certain building is on campus, where they can get free food after class, what the latest gossip is on the engagement of Prince William. Statistics show, what we look at online daily affect our points of view, lifestyles and hearts.
If you were to look at the history on my web browser you would see that most of my time is spent on my social media intrigue, wedding, wedding and more wedding paroozing along with a another does of social media obsession . This is a true reflection of where my heart is. Matthew 6:21 says "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also". If only my web browser history would read "time with God" and "thinking about my Savior", how different would my lifestyle and points of view be. I pray that God may begin to work on restructuring my web browser to land on His homepage always.
If you were to look at your web browser history what would it say about you and how you spend your time?
I believe there is a way we can reach students with the love and message of Jesus Christ by using media and today's fad technologies that I spend hours on. God has given us all the we need, we just need to use it in the ways He intends; talking about and thinking about Him.
